There is a unique kind of warmth in something handmade. A reminder that someone, somewhere, took the time to create something beautiful for a stranger. That’s the heart behind Project Petal, our latest community initiative.
We are calling on all knitters and crocheters in Letchworth, Hitchin and Baldock to help us turn yarn into smiles.
The Mission: Crafting Kindness
Food banks provide essential nourishment, but we believe everyone deserves a little extra beauty in their day, too. Our goal is to collect handmade flowers (knitted, crocheted, felted, sewn) to be distributed to our food bank clients.
Whether it’s a bright sunflower, a delicate rose, or a simple daisy, your “petals” will serve as a small token of community support and solidarity.
How to Get Involved
You don’t need to be a master crafter to participate. As long as it’s made with care, it’s perfect.

Why Project Petal?
“Kindness is like a seed; when you plant it, beauty grows.”
In a world that can often feel a bit cold, a handmade gift is a tactile reminder of human connection. By spending an hour or two with your needles or hooks, you’re helping us ensure that our neighbours visiting the food bank feel seen, valued, and cared for.
Grab your yarn, find a pattern you love, and let’s get crafting!
