Say No to Winter Hunger

No one should have to face winter worrying about whether to heat their home or feed themselves or their family. But that is exactly the choices those on low-incomes are facing with the extra financial pressures they are facing  from increases in petrol, heating as well as food costs – even before you add the extra cost of Christmas on top.

Last winter, we provided 16,902 meals to those facing impossible choices living in Letchworth, Hitchin, Baldock and surrounding villages. We have seen a 29% increase in demand this year and we desperately need both food and money donations to meet the need in our community.

How you can help as an individual

Donate Money

We know that it’s not easy to help others if things are tight in your own pocket, and we are grateful for little or a lot.

• £2.50 – £10 can help us buy some tins to put into our emergency parcels.
• £25 could provide 3 days of emergency food for a household struggling to afford essentials.
• £100 could fund the citizen advice services we provide in our welcome centres that unlock around £1,000 for a family – every £1 we spend on advice unlocks roughly £10 of unclaimed support. 

Families need support all year round. If you can give monthly – even a small amount – you can help us plan ahead and respond when need spikes.

Donate Food

You can also donate food at a range of local supermarkets & stores. 

Purchase items in any of the following stores and pop them in our food collection baskets, usually found near the check out. You can find our winter food shortages list on the right.

In Baldock, E. H. Crouch Funeral Directors (50 High Street, Baldock) has kindly agreed to be a permanent collection point for the foodbank. Your food donations can be dropped off in branch during opening hours.

Host a Food Drive

By hosting a food drive at your workplace this winter, your company can make an immediate, tangible difference to local people facing hardship in our community. Setting up a donation point in your office or staff room is a simple, high-impact way to boost team morale, strengthen corporate social responsibility (CSR), and bring your employees together around a meaningful cause. Every crate of non-perishable food collected helps ensure no one in our town has to choose between heating their home and putting a hot meal on the table this winter.
